REMEMBRANCE DAY

November 11, 2015 0 comments

You and your family are invited to join us for our annual Remembrance Day Service on November 11.

A time honoured tradition at Centennial Park,  our Remembrance Day Service commemorates the courage and sacrifices of the Australian men and women who have fallen and served in times of war.

Our service takes place in Derrick Gardens beneath two pine trees reputedly grown from the seeds of Lone Pine in Turkey, the site of Australia’s main war memorial in Gallipoli where the Battle of Lone Pine was fought in 1915.

Australian flags adorn more than 3500 memorial headstones, providing a moving backdrop for the service.  Lead by the mounted Barossa Light Horse Division the service commences with a catafalque party consisting of cadets from the three armed forces followed by the Scotch College pipes and drums band.  Walford Girls choir provide a moving rendition of Flanders in the Field and the National Anthem prior to the Last Post at 11am and  the poignant one minute of silence.

Along with official guests, you are invited to place your wreath or personal tribute at the Cross of Remembrance.

Following the service you are welcome to join us and the representatives from the State Government, local councils and the armed forces for light refreshments in our Jubilee Complex.
