South Australia’s First Café and Function Facility Within a Cemetery

South Australia’s First Café and Function Facility Within a Cemetery is a Step Closer Due to Three-Way SA Partnership

A brand-new café, retail space and function facility at South Australia’s pre-eminent cemetery, Centennial Park is a step closer due to partnerships with two other leading South Australian organisations.

Studio S2 architects and interior designers are known for creating unique and memorable spaces, particularly in the tourism and visitor experience industry, and were appointed to work with Centennial Park on the design of the new offering to the 500,000 visitors per annum to Centennial Park.

Studio S2 are renowned for contemporary and unique creations with a wow factor through their work at the Barossa Valley Visitor Centre and Utopia at Waterfall Gully,” said Janet Miller, CEO of Centennial Park.

“They immediately understood the importance we place on connections with the community and worked with us to design something very special to complement our stunningly beautiful and nurturing environment at Centennial Park,” Janet said.

Centennial Park has also announced that the operator of the brand-new café and function facility will be Blanco Horner Hospitality Management, South Australia’s leading catering, events and hospitality management company.

Like Studio S2, Blanco Horner create unforgettable experiences. Through food, beverages and service, they create perfect moments for people that last a lifetime.

As a multi-award-winning company operating for 40 years, Blanco Horner pride themselves on attention to detail, commitment to service and being innovative in the catering and events space. They support a garden to plate philosophy, championing sustainable food practices.

“They are fresh, creative, sophisticated and professional and like Studio S2 are a perfect fit for Centennial Park. We are so proud to be partnering with two other leading South Australian organisations of this calibre who, like Centennial Park, are passionate about community and especially about meeting the changing needs of our very diverse community” Janet said.

Centennial Park will be the first cemetery in South Australia to build its own contemporary café and function area on-site. Cafés and function facilities at other cemeteries interstate have been welcomed and utilised well by their communities.

The function facility will provide brand new spaces for families and friends to gather in to share stories and remember loved ones after funeral or memorial services in the Jubilee Complex.

“The function spaces will provide the perfect environment for families to host a beautifully catered gathering which gives friends and family members the time to share stories and remember their loved one; whether that be immediately following a funeral or memorial in our Jubilee Complex, or at an event planned for a later date – there’s no right order in which to do things, and there’s no rush.  Families can do things their way,” said Janet.

The adjoining café will be a place for people to enjoy coffee, snacks or lunch, before or after a service, when they come to visit a memorial to a loved one or even when they attend one of Centennial Park’s events. It will also be available to those who visit to stroll and enjoy the picturesque gardens, sculptures and surrounds within the 40-hectare Park.

Centennial Park is a stunningly beautiful community space – and a place for the living as well as those no longer with us.  It is a place that connects people and what better way to connect and reflect than over a coffee and food with friends and family.

The appointment of the architects and operator are important milestones.

“We are looking forward to a builder being appointed in the near future, and we continue to plan to open our brand-new facility before the end of 2020,” Janet said.
